The Breitling Superocean Heritage ’57 Outerknown

by Murat Balci on June 08, 2023

As governments throughout the globe band together to fight for a greener, cleaner future free of fossil fuels and combustion engines, so must manufacturers and innovators.

By no means self-sufficient in terms of carbon emissions, the Breitling Superocean Heritage '57 Outerknown proudly carries this figurative baton as it pays homage to the past in every stride toward a better world.

It's a long-term alliance that may be yours to carry gladly. Gentlemen, meet the Superocean Heritage '57 Outerknown, the third watch created in conjunction with the sustainable clothing company Outerknown.

The unveiling of this modern-retro sea watch, co-founded by Australian surfing champion Kelly Slater, lends credence to the easygoing, laid-back style that is riding. This is one great-looking watch, decked out in a limited-edition model 18-carat red gold bezel or traditional stainless-steel, and strapped with Outerknown ECONYL® yarn NATO.

The Breitling Superocean Heritage '57 Outerknown is a beautiful monument to a period of exceptional affluence and optimism, reminiscent of the surfing scenes of Southern California and Hawaii in the 1950s and 1960s. The third installment of this watchmaking duo, like its predecessors, the 2018 and 2019 Superocean Heritage Outerknown, provides a model from each of Breitling's sea-related series.

The Limited Variant Heritage '57 model has a bronze-colored dial that adds a distinctive modern-retro touch to the stainless-steel edition, as well as an 18 k red gold concave bidirectional rotating bezel. A black ceramic bezel ring contrasts well. This model is offered in a 500-piece limited edition.

If you lose out, don't concern: the stainless-steel model's convex bidirectional spinning bezel has an ultrahard scratch and shock-resistant black ceramic bezel ring, replete with a luminous center dot at the 12 o'clock position, which is still quite fancy for Next Luxury.

Breitling CEO Georges Kern sees the initiatives as "beyond watchmaking," as he is excited to expand on their great connection with Kelly and Outerknown.

Kern's love for "the cool surfing lifestyle," as well as the uniqueness of "working with the best surfer of all time," underscores Breitling's dedication to sustainability. She feels that "making watches with the ECONYL® yarn straps we devised with Breitling is a great message and our gesture towards a cleaner environment while producing products," since she and Kelly Slater share a love for "clean seas and beaches."

The ECONYL® yarn straps are made from materials reclaimed from abandoned or lost fishing nets. These straps are not only recycled, but they are also completely recyclable. The straps are specifically created for the Breitling Superocean line and come in a variety of fresh and colorful hues.
