King Seiko Back On 140th Birthday

by Murat Balci on June 08, 2023

The rebirth of a King, the restoration of an icon, and a righteous party to celebrate. In honor of the company's 140th birthday, Seiko has recreated the second series of the King Seiko, an instant classic from 1965. Recreated in honor of Seiko's 140th anniversary as a company, this timepiece is known as the King Seiko KSK.

It's high accuracy and precision are second only to the Grand Seiko's beautiful design and impeccable build quality. Now that King Seiko has been reborn for a whole new generation, you can join them in honoring this great company's past in style.

The King Seiko KSK was introduced in 1965, four years after the original model. The watch was a departure in style for the Japanese watchmaker, as it was powered by a hand-wound 25-jewel caliber and had no automatic features.

The original had softly rounded contours, but the iconic KSK edition contrasted this with a strikingly sharper shape that was both angular and modern.

This updated version of the classic watch features the same light-catching design—complete with flat surfaces and multifaceted corners—that made the original so popular in Japan.

Seiko's re-creation of the original's refined elegance is achieved by combining the same flat dial with faceted indexes and broad, sharp hands with bold faceted lugs, a large flat Zaratsu polished plane, and razor-sharp angles. The intricate faceted design method was used to create the KSK's signature bright sparkle at 12 o'clock.

When you turn it over, you'll notice that the case back bears the King Seiko brand and the same shield design as the original. Despite being updated with an automatic movement and a date window, the 140th anniversary King Seiko KSK is only 0.5mm thicker than the original thanks to the ultra-thin Caliber 6L35.

This commemorative watch is only 38.2mm wide, but the sapphire crystal and anti-reflective coating inside make it easy to read from any angle. The King Seiko KSK replica is like having royalty restored, what with its impeccable craftsmanship and super-hard coating that prevents scratches.
